Frequently Asked Questions

Question: I’m not sure if I’m following the right steps for getting my license reinstated. How can I be sure of all the requirements?
Answer: Call the Georgia Department of Driver Services at 678-413-8400 and any other state DMV where your license was suspended. Be prepared to tell them your full name, drivers license number and / or social security number and explain your situation.

Question? I’m new to all of this. I was just charged with a DUI and I was told to go to DUI School. How do I get started?
Answer: Simply click on “DUI Risk Reduction Program” from the main menu and there you will find an explanation complete with upcoming class schedules. You may also call our office at 678-796-1035.

Question: I just went to DUI School and took an assessment before attending and now the judge / probation officer tells me that I need another assessment. I’m confused! Why do I need another assessment?
Answer: The assessment for DUI School is a self administered Needs Assessment to help you understand your level of drug and / or alcohol risk. The result of this assessment is provided during your attendance to DUI School. Your probation officer / judge is now requiring that you see a licensed counselor for a face to face interview to determine your level of drug and / or alcohol abuse or addiction and possible recommendations for treatment.

Question: I was charged with a second DUI within a five year period. What do I need to do to get my license back?
Answer: The process generally involves attendance to the DUI Risk Reduction Program, a clinical evaluation with a DHR approved provider, multiple DUI Offender Treatment with a DHR approved provider and an interlock device installed in your vehicle for six months. The process needs to be in the order just described. To be certain about requirements specific to you, contact the Georgia Department of Driver Services at 678-413-8400. We can help you with all of these services.

Question: The written requirements provided by the court / probation states that I need a SAC. What is a SAC and how to get one?
Answer: SAC is Substance Abuse Counseling. It involves an interview with a licensed counselor which last 45 – 60 minutes. The purpose of the SAC is to determine your level of risk for drugs and alcohol abuse and / or addiction and the need for possible treatment and / or education.
Question: Can my wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, mother, father or anyone else attend an evaluation with me.
Answer: No. We ask that you attend the evaluation alone. Anyone coming with you will need to wait in the waiting area.

Question: I need a hair follicle test. How does this process work?
Answer: A sample of your hair will be cut closet to your skin. The amount collected, when tightly squeezed together, is about the size of an end of a pencil eraser. Hair is generally collected from the head, but may be taken from another area if needed. We can take hair from several areas on your head to avoid leaving a noticeable bald spot. The sample can usually be taken from an area that you prefer. The sample will then be sent to LabCorp, a certified lab for testing. The results are usually available within three business days. With your written permission, the results are generally mailed to the address you provide and faxed to the person and / or organization of your choosing (i.e., judge, court, probation, attorney, etc.). Other arrangements may be requested. The test determines the presence of amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, opiates, and phencyclidine and any use of these drugs within 90 days prior to testing.
